Mantelli’s Milestones

1988 – Mantelli’s started by Simon Mantell in a 60 square metre facility in Newlands, Cape Town
with three staff using domestic Defy thermofan ovens.
1988 – Mantelli’s manufactures a range of crunchies and muffins for the food service industry,
supplying head office canteens and the airlines.
1996 – Production of our now famous shortbread for a national retailer under a private label.
1997 – Moved to larger premises in Kenilworth and installed our first commercial oven. Staff
complement had now increased to fifteen staff. Leading supermarket chain, Pick’n
Pay (Western Cape) gave Mantelli’s our first real break by listing our Mantelli’s
branded shortbread and cookies in its stores.
1998 – Mantelli’s obtains both Kosher as well as Halaal Certification. 
2001 – Purchased land in Westlake Business Park and commenced construction of a larger facility. Staff
             complement had now increased to 20 employees. Mantelli’s biscuits now found nationally at Pick’n Pay,
             Checkers and Spar. The same year we started supplying our famous shortbread twin packs to
             British Airways and to the SAA Business Class Lounges. 
2001 – Mantelli’s starts exporting to Europe and the Far East. Customers in
             Europe include Galeria Kaufhof and Karstadt in Germany. 
2003 – Planning starts for a new state of the art 1200 square metre factory
             also in Westlake Business Park. 
2004 – Building commences on new factory in Westlake Business Park. 
2004 – Mantelli’s starts manufacturing a range of private label products for
             Tiger Brands. 
2005 – Mantelli’s moves to the new factory. 
2005 – Archbishop Desmond Tutu officially opens the factory
             and blesses the staff. 
2005 – Additional packaging machinery purchased from Italy, Germany
             and the UK. 
2005 – Research and Development work begins on our new sugar free range. 
2006 – Fulltime Research and Development department established to
             enable us to develop products specifically for individual
             customers’ needs. 
2007 – Sugar free range launched. 
2007 – Mantelli’s launches sugar free range into selected European markets.
2008 – Mantelli’s range of Sugar Free Fingers was selected "Nominee
SIAL d'Or 2008 Award"
2008 – Mantelli’s was selected as a finalist in the PetroSA Proudly South African Homegrown
Awards 2007, in the category "Manufacturer of the Year" and "Company of the Year"
2008 – Mantelli’s is certified as a B-BBEE business with a Level 3 and 110%
B-BBEE Recognition Level score.
2009 – March: Mantelli’s expands into second factory in Westlake business park.
2009 – October: Mantelli’s Launches New Factory Shop at 9A Bell Crescent Westlake Business Park.
2009 – October: Mantelli’s Biscuit Factory receives HACCP certification.
2010 – Mantelli’s progresses to a B-BBEE Level 2 and 125% B-BBEE Recognition Level score.
2011 – Mantelli’s launches a world first bite size, soft centred pastry crammed with a fruit filling, we call them Kisses.
2011 – Mantelli’s launches corporate retail range into Dis-Chem stores.
2011 – Mantelli’s Cantucci Almond as well as Real Choc Chip and Hazelnut Retail Boxes were selected 
as the best buy in the Fairlady Food magazine.
2013/2014 – Mantelli’s was selected as a finalist in the SA Premium Business Awards.
2014 – FSA Audit (Food Safety) – Mantelli’s latest annual audit scored us at 97%.
2014 – Mantelli’s launches its first Direct store at Belvedere Square
2014 – Mantelli’s branded Retail biscuits are stocked at Clicks stores
2014 – Introduction of No added sugar rusk, chocolate enrobed cookies and crackers
2014 – A cookie fortified with vitamins & minerals developed and supplied to Pioneer Foods
2015 – Mantelli’s progresses to a B-BBEE Level 1 and 135% B-BBEE Recognition Level score
2015 – Mantelli’s launches its third Direct Store in Somerset West
2015 – Introduction of  Cereal Bars and Oat Crunchies
2016 – Mantelli’s receives Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC 22000)
